ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) ruled on Thursday to recognize
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan's victory in seven National Assembly
by-elections on October 16, 2022. The ECP had earlier deferred its verdict since
Imran needed to provide details of his by-election costs.
The PTI leader was not to submit election expense figures for the seven seats: NA 22, NA 24, NA 31,
A 45, NA 108, NA 118, and NA 239.
The specifics of the poll costs must be reported to the electoral watchdog within three days of the
election day, according to the legislation.
Several candidates have already been disqualified for failing to disclose information about the election
costs and the Supreme Court has also prevented losing candidates from running in the following
election.
However, following the submission, the details of Imran Khan's election costs were cleared, and the
ECP today issued a notice certifying Imran's victory in all seven seats he had won in by-elections last
year.
Imran had run for seven of the eight National Assembly seats formerly held by the PTI, while Meher
Bano Qureshi was to defend the party's stronghold in Multan. However, the Pakistan Peoples Party
(PPP) made headway, with Hakeem Baloch winning in Karachi and Ali Musa Gilani in Multan.
According to the results of the by-elections, Imran won the NA seats from Khyber-Mardan,
Pakhtunkhwa's Charsadda, and Peshawar, Punjab's Faisalabad and Nankana Sahib, and Sindh's
Korangi district of Karachi.
