Miftah Ismail, leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-N, claimed on
Thursday that Pakistan has suffered a "significant loss" as a result
of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar's policy of "turning a cold shoulder" to
the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
"All of our specialists knew this method was doomed to fail, and we have seen the
outcome," the former finance minister remarked on News.
This is not the first time Ismail, who claims he was dismissed at Dar's request, has
gone public with his dissatisfaction with the present finance minister's accession to
the office and his criticism of his successor's policies.
Earlier this month, the ex-minister accused Dar of coordinating a smear campaign
against him. "Dar used to go on TV and claim he will pull the dollar down," Ismail
had stated, adding, "he used to make anchors conduct shows against me".
During today's interview, Ismail stated that he had the right to protect
himself. "I felt compelled to reply to criticisms made against my
competence and policy. And my political party has taken no action
against me."
In response to the current economic crisis, Ismail stated that Dar misjudged the
influence of the IMF, which harmed Pakistan's cause.
"Dar sahib, after seizing the reins, imagined he would solve the economy without the
IMF or by scaring the lender to accept Pakistan's demands since he had been publicly
rejecting the IMF terms. He made an attempt, and Pakistan suffered a significant loss
as a result."
