ISLAMABAD: In defiance of the Prime Minister's austerity measures, the Federal Board of Revenue plans to buy 155 luxury cars worth more than PRs 1.6 lakh in the guise of facilitating foreign loans for taxpayers. The details show that FBR has lodged documents with the planning ministry for the Investment Project Finance (IPF) component worth PRs.19.6 billion under the World Bank's $400 million Pakistan Tax Project. A close examination of the documents reveals that FBR will buy 155 vehicles ranging in displacement from 1,500 ccs to 3,000 ccs, an engine size FBR itself declares to be a luxury and heavily taxed.
