A day after a major power outage struck Pakistan, Energy Minister Khurram Dastgir said on
Tuesday that power had been entirely restored at grid stations across the country. However,
big cities such as Karachi, Quetta, and Lahore remained powerless.
"All 1,112 national grid stations now have power," Dastgir tweeted.
The minister revealed in a televised address at 10 a.m. that there was a "delay in
synchronization" between the Tarbela and Mangla power facilities.
"But with the cooperation of the Electricity Division, Wapda, and other authorities,
we addressed the technical problem after which power at systems across the country
was restored.
"At 5:15 a.m. today, the system was completely restored across the country," Dastgir
continued.
However, the minister stated that there would be a power outage for the next two days.
He said that restarting around 6,600 megawatts of coal and 3,500MW of nuclear facilities
will take 48 to 72 hours. "There will be little load management until these plants are
operational, barring industrial customers."
