ISLAMABAD: A power outage gripped the entire country, including K-Electric areas, on Monday, bringing life to a halt when the system breakout occurred at 7:34 a.m. due to frequency disturbance, over-voltage, and load variation in the National Transmission & Despatch Company (NTDC) South region (Sindh & Balochistan) due to technical issues at 500kV Jamshoro & Guddu Grid Stations.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was alerted to the incident and ordered an investigation. He also formed a high-level group to explore why the system failed. Power was restored in numerous areas late Monday, 15 hours after the interruption was detected, according to officials.
According to a foreign wire service report, the breakout occurred when the government's energy-saving effort backfired. According to authorities, it all started when electricity was shut off during low consumption hours overnight to save fuel across the country, leaving technicians unable to boot up the system all at once after sunrise.
Power had begun to be restored to certain sections of KP later that night. People in Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Haripur, Abbottabad, Swat, Buner, Shangla, Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Upper Chitral, and Lower Chitral, on the other hand, are still waiting for power to be restored.
